I’m not going to lie – after that cliff hanger they left us with last week, where the showed us some unseen footage of what was going on with Michael at Monique’s Rainbow Party, I was mildly disappointed we didn’t address that again. I was hoping we’d come back to it, but I guess not. After all, the charges have been dismissed. And they probably don’t have much more than they showed us, anyway. Ugh, annoying. Anyway.
We start off all around Potomac as usual – Monique is at her home with her kids, Karen and Ray are playing tennis, and as usual, Gizelle is driving. Gizelle calls Ashley because she feels bad about some of the stuff she said at Juan’s birthday. She wants Ashley to know she does have her back, so she invites Ashley over to her new house, and informs her Robyn will be joining them as well. Ashley appreciates the olive branch Gizelle is extending and accepts her invite.
Meanwhile, Candiace and Chris are house-hunting. Yes, I think it’s great that Candiace is ready to move and have her own space with Chris. However – can they afford a $2.5 million dollar home? This seems outrageous and ridiculous. Candiace does come to her senses a little bit when she sits down and talks with Chris. Chris doesn’t want to have to struggle, and she seems to understand that. It’s just hard for me to relate to Candiace during scenes like this, because she is so clearly used to getting whatever she wants. Does she have any idea what the mortgage would be on a $2.5 million dollar home? I’m guessing no.
Ashley arrives first to Gizelle’s new home, and brings her a gift, which I thought was sweet. Robyn arrives, and Gizelle gives the girls a tour of the house. It’s honestly not in as bad of a condition that I assumed it would be in.
After touring the inside of the home, Gizelle gives them a tour of the backyard, to give them an idea of how much property there actually is. Robyn pops champagne, and they all toast to Gizelle. They do bring up Michael – Ashley admits that she felt like Gizelle was coming off “shady” in the way she spoke about the entire situation. Gizelle surprisingly agrees with this. She then brings up what Katie told them – how Jacob felt like Michael was flirting with him, and Katie straight up called Ashley stupid. Ashley is surprised and upset by this – she says that Katie always smiles to her face, but clearly feels a different way. Ashley goes on to say, “Candiace said everyone was laughing about the situation behind my back.” Robyn clarifies, “Laughing is not the word.” She admits that they talked about the situation, it was brought up, they had questions – but they were not laughing about it. Ashley brings up how she was with Monique, and Monique showed her texts between her and Candiace – and Candiace was poking fun at her. Gizelle and Robyn think it’s complete bullshit that Monique would do that to Candiace, since they’re friends. Ashley also fills in Gizelle that Monique feels like Gizelle doesn’t really care about her. This enrages Gizelle, who tells Ashley to watch out for Monique. (This is all really over dramatic.)
Over at Karen’s, she’s having a family dinner. Both of her children are there, and it’s just a nice, normal scene. I like seeing Karen with her family, you can tell that when she’s her best self, and really in her element.
Ashley and Michael are going on a date. Ashley tells us she feels a lot better since the case has been dismissed. Michael still isn’t happy about the things Gizelle and Robyn were saying, but they decide to just move on and not dwell about it. Ashley brings up her dad – she wants to go to Georgia, and her mom would go with her. Michael doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Ashley gets where he is coming from, but she feels like it’s something he has to do, and Michael is supportive.
Back over at Ashley’s the next morning, Ashley is doing yoga and trying to clear her mind. She is talking a lot about her dad, and honestly, this is a really sad situation. She calls her Aunt Sheila, who is her dad’s sister. Aunt Sheila and Sheila’s husband, Jim, are the only people on her father’s side who she has kept in contact with. Aunt Sheila is very sweet. She doesn’t know if it’s a good idea for Ashley to try and see her father either – she tells Ashley that she hasn’t seen him herself since 2011. (Something is clearly wrong with that man.) Sheila would be happy to see Ashley, though, and she is also being very supportive in what Ashley wants to do. She’s willing to go with her, and Ashley is happy and excited.
Over at Monique’s, Monique plays a prank on Chris and pretends her water broke. I truly love Monique and Chris, but this was unnecessary. Maybe I’m too uptight, but seeing that Monique had a miscarriage, I didn’t think it was funny. Chris panics and calls 911, and Monique is like “Shit.” They both laugh it off, and Monique talks about how they need a plan, and she’s going to start packing her bag for the hospital.
Katie is hosting an event – Mary’s Center Gala. Candiace brings Dorothy, because she’s in town. (I’m so confused – you’re telling me Dorothy doesn’t live in Potomac? Why is she always here?) Gizelle arrives, and the three of them are chatting. After witnessing Dorothy and Candiace interact, Gizelle feels like Candiace is actually making progress with therapy, and Dorothy isn’t at all. She comments on how Dorothy is still constantly throwing shade at her daughter, but she’s noticed that Candiace is not as reactive as she normally is.
Robyn arrives, and the girls are all talking. No one has any idea what this charity event is for. Not even Katie, the one who is throwing it. Katie also mentions that she forgot to Ashley. (Katie is literally in space.) They bring up what Michael said to Jacob – the whole thing is just weird. Robyn asks if Jacob felt like Michael was flirting with him or if he was just joking around, and Jacob says he doesn’t know.
They’re all just gossiping at this point, and somehow it comes up that Katie says Ashley told her she sold her portion of the restaurant. The girls are all shocked by this. Candiace is carrying a bag, and she reveals it was actually a gift for Monique, but Monique didn’t end up coming because she’s so pregnant and uncomfortable. Gizelle uses this opportunity to tell Candiace what Ashley told her – Monique showed Ashley their text messages. “She threw you under the bus,” Gizelle tells Candiace. Candiace doesn’t even want to believe it, because she feels betrayed. Gizelle is totally being an instigator right now. Candiace takes the high road, and just says that she will talk to Monique. I feel like Gizelle is pissed off at Monique because of what Ashley told her, so now shoe doesn’t want anyone to like Monique. Can ya’ll just leave her alone? She’s about to give birth.
Ashley and her mom head to Georgia. They meet up with Aunt Sheila and Uncle Jim. Ashley is terrified of being rejected by her dad, but not scared enough to not go. She feels hopeful. Jim is honest with Ashley and tells her he has mixed feelings about her going to see her father, but he is just as supportive as Sheila is. Ashley basically just wants acknowledgment from her father. It’s sad. After grabbing a bite to eat, they head over to Ashley’s dad’s house. We watch Sheila and Ashley walk up together – and then we are hit with a To Be Continued.
What will happen between Ashley and her dad? I hope that he does open the door. And I hope that he is kind to her. I can’t imagine going through what Ashley is going through. It’s all really sad, and it clearly played a major role in her life, hence her relationship with Michael. We also see Gizelle confront Monique next week, so we’ll see what happens with that.
Until next week….
